Silver Angel Ornament

Silver and pearl make this heavenly ornament a beautiful addition to any tree.  Create several as gifts or make a collection for your own tree.  This is a quick project that requires very few tools and very little expertise.   Use the free template to cut out the angel in one piece.  Bake to harden, then cover in pearl paint.  Add beads and jewelry findings for added sparkle and watch your angel shine.

step 2 - Cover the work surface with wax paper.  Flatten the clay and cover with another piece of wax paper.  Roll the clay to about 1/4” thickness.  Remove the top sheet of wax paper.  Following the template, cut out the angel with a craft knife.

step 3 - Optional:  Roll over a small stencil totransfer the design onto the dress portion of the clay.

step 4 - Align the edges of the wings.  Using a plastic spatula, lightly press down where the wings meet the dress to connect the back of the angel.  Be Careful!  Pressing too hard will split the clay.

step 6 - With your finger inside the clay, give the dress flare by pinching the hem edge between the thumb and index finger of your fee hand and stretching it out slightly.  Work around the entire hem.

step 7 - To create the halo, wrap a piece of wire around a round object like a magic marker, twice.  Create a 90 degree bend in the wire below the halo.

step 8 - Thread the wire into two clear beads, a large bead or pearl and a decorative silver bead cap.

step 9 - Place the wire into the top of the angel.  Pinch the clay around the wire and cover it with the bead cap.

step 10 - Lay the angel on a foil lined baking sheet.  Crumple and roll small pieces of foil and place them under the middle of the wings to lift them and give them shape.  Bake at 275 degrees for 15 minutes.  Allow to cool completely.

Step 11 - Use fine sand paper to smooth any rough or crooked edges.  Paint the angel dress with silver pearl paint and the wings with white pearl.
