Ladybug Floral Arrangement

Adorable ladybugs make an unending journey around this giant 60 oz.! mug.  Standing tall and white, the unpainted mug makes a perfect canvas for the bright ladybug artwork.  Colorful and whimsical, this project takes little time to complete and won’t strain the budget.  The ladybug stencils are included with the instructions.

Directions

COVER EXPOSED AREAS TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OVER SPRAY. ALLOW PAINT TO DRY BETWEEN STEPS.

step 1 - Remove the label from the mug and any adhesive that may remain.

step 2 - Mask off 1” around the top of the mug and 1.25” at the bottom with the painter’s tape.

step 3 - Place ¼” masking tape vertically on both sides of the handle.

step 4 -Measuring 1” from the edge of the top masking tape, place ¼” tape around the mug, stopping at the vertical tapeline.  Place two more lines around the mug positioned 1” apart.

step 5 - Mask the inside of the mug with a paper towel.  Tape the edge of it to the top edge of the mug.  Wrap tissue around the mug handle.

step 6 - Airbrush the mug with Tan paint.  When thoroughly dry, carefully remove all masking tape, paper towels and tissue.

step 7 - Print and cut out two of the ladybug stencil pages.  Piece the pages together to fit around the mug.

step 8 - Wrap the stencils around the mug with the bottom of the page aligned with the bottom of the mug.  Use tape to hold it in place. Use a red marker to fill in the shapes.  Leave a slight margin between the marker’s tip and the paper.  If the paint touches the paper it may smear the red paint outside the borders of the shape.

step 9 - When all the ladybugs are in place, complete the details, painting black shapes over the red for the bug heads.  Use the fine edge and corners of the black maker to create the center lines, antenna, and spots.  When dry, paint the white dots.  Use the fine edge of the green marker to apply curly vines in and around the bugs.

step 10 - Spray the mug with Glosscote to protect the paint.  Let it dry completely.  See package instructions.

step 11 - Cut a piece of Styrofoam to fit snugly into the mug.  Hot glue the foam to the bottom.

step 12 - Trim the stems of the flowers with wire cutters and stick them into the Styrofoam.  Glue can be added to each stem to adhere it to the Styrofoam if desired.
