Silver Shade Necklace

DIRECTIONS 

The inspiration for this double stranded project came from a necklace in a Durnstein, Austria shop window.  The original was one strand, bigger and bulkier but attractive all the same.  So consider working in larger pearls and beads if you like jewelry that makes a bolder statement.  We used 4mm Silver Shade, Swarovski bicone beads to add sparkle, catch light and contrast the dark sapphire blue seed beads, attributes that don’t come across well in these photos. This is a fast project.  Make it now, wear it tonight.

  1. • 8 grams 11/0 dark sapphire seed beads

  2. •15 pearls 6mm

  3. •30 silver beads 3mm

  4. •clasp

  5. •beading wire

  6. •2 crimp beads

  7. •crimp tool

  8. •painters tape

  1. 1. The finished necklace measures 18” with one strand being slightly smaller.  Cut two pieces of wire to 24” lengths to allow for attaching the clasp at the ends.

  2. 2.Attach painters tape to one end of each wire to keep the beads from slipping off as you work.

  3. 3.Create the longer strand first by passing the wire through through 29 seed beads.  

  4. 4.Pass the wire through a set which consists of a bicone bead, a silver bead, a pearl, a silver bead, and another bicone. 

  5. 5.Pass the wire through 33 seed beads then add another set.

  6. 6.Continue adding sets separated by 33 seed beads until you have eight sets.  When you attach your last set, add 29 seed beads which will match what you did at the start.  Attach painters tape to the end of the wire and set this strand aside.

  7. 7.Create the shorter strand by passing the wire through 48 seed beads.

  8. 8.Add a set then 33 seed beads.

  9. 9.Continue adding sets separated by 33 seed beads until you have seven sets.  When you attach your last set, add 48 seed beads which will match what you did at the start.

  10. 10.Remove the tape from one end of the long wire.  Put the end of the long wire as well as the short wire through a crimp bead. 

  11. 11.Add one end of the clasp onto the wires then bring the wire ends ends back through the crimp bead and if possible, through a few seed beads.  Pulling on both wires simultaneously, slide the crimp close to the clasp and secure with a double crimp.  Trim the excess wire and slide all the seed beads over it.

  12. 12.Remove the tape from the other two wire ends and attach the clasp as described above.
