DIRECTIONS

BEFORE PAINTING, ALWAYS WASH AND DRY FABRIC (WITHOUT FABRIC SOFTENER) AND COVER EXPOSED FABRIC TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OVER SPRAY DURING PAINTING.

It’s really rewarding when you get a chance to rescue a piece of clothing from the trash bin.  That was the case with this once beautiful grey silk scarf.  It was unwearable because of two or three small stains  We tried every stain removing possibility with no luck.  But then we discovered airbrush paint!  Now we have a beautiful lace-look scarf in grey and purple that we’re proud of.  It’s still soft and silky and the stains are camouflaged and invisible in the design.  The lace look was achieved simply by covering the scarf with a long scrap of lace fabric, a remnant from a previous project, and airbrushing it!  This project recommended  for airbrush only.

1. Cover your work surface with plastic which does not appear in our first photo. Secure the scarf to the work surface with a strip of painters tape about 10 inches from each end so that the scarf will not shift while working. Then place tape 1.25” from both short edges of scarf.

2. Place another strip of tape .25” from the first. This will create your solid color stripe between the grey and the lace pattern.

3. Spray Purple People Eater paint in the space between the tapes. Let dry.

4. Remove the tapes and position one of them across, and covering the purple painted strip you just created. This upper tape edge will mark where your lace design butts up to the solid stripe. Do the same thing on the other end of the scarf.

5. The beauty of this project is there is no stencil or adhesive needed. Just lay the lace across the scarf. Be sure the pattern is straight on the scarf.

6. Spray over the lace with steady slow strokes until the entire scarf is covered.

7. If your lace piece is not long enough to cover the entire length of scarf, you can lift the lace after painting one section (once it is dry) and move it to another position. Spray along the scarf only as far as where the pattern in the lace repeats so that when you reposition it further down the scarf, you can match the pattern to create one continuous look.

8. When the paint is dry, carefully remove the tape and lace to reveal your new scarf design.
