What You’ll Need

  1. 38” of silver chain

  2. 1 clasp

  3. 4 silver one inch long ovals

  4. 2 jump rings

  5. 2 pairs of pliers, preferably flat edge

What better time to make this necklace?  Chains are the hot fashion accessory right now.  Link them together with 4 polished silver ovals to create a look that says “right now”.  The directions here are for a 16” necklace, but you can use longer pieces of chain or add more ovals to create a necklace that suits your style.

THE 4 LINKS CHAIN NECKLACE

Costs listed do not include everyday household items like glue, tools, or items costing less than $1.00 per project.

DIRECTIONS

  1. 1.Create six pieces of chain, each four inches long.  Do this by opening links to separate the sections.  If you have any doubts as to how to open and close links properly, go to our Jewelry Making Tips page.  To get the chains all the same length, you can count the links, or measure the pieces.  But sometimes that’s a little harder than it sounds.  The easiest way to be sure they are all the same length, is to hang them by a straight wire or pin.

  2. 2. Cut two pieces of chain seven inches long.  These will be attached at the back ends of the necklace later.  Put them aside for now

  1. 3. Thread a piece of the six-inch chain into two of your large silver ovals.  Open the last link in the chain and attach it to the last link of the other chain end.  You now have one continuous circle of chain running through two ovals.  Do the same with one more length of chain.

  2. 4. Now work on the remaining oval pieces.  Continue to attach all the chains to the ovals as described in step #3.   When you’re done, you will have these sections:  an oval, two inches of chain, another oval, two more inches of chain, another oval, two inches of chain, and the final oval.

  3. 5.Thread a seven-inch piece of chain through the last oval on each end.  Open the last link and attach it to the other end.

  4. 6. Using a jump ring attach a clasp of your choice to the chain.
