OFF THE WALL STATEMENT

The phrase on these jeans literally came off the wall. Our custom made stencil was ordered online (see link below) to paint onto a kitchen wall. “Il Dolce Far Niente” means “the sweetness of doing nothing” in Italian. After using the stencil once, it sat in the closet. So when we were looking for a cool way to embellish a pair of jeans, we thought of this stencil because it’s so long! We also used a small paisley stencil to create a background for the message.

If you see expensive designer jeans painted with images or messages at your favorite stores and wish you could afford a pair, stop wishing. With stencils and an airbrush tool, you can create them yourself without the designer cost. We used an airbrush to apply the paint but you can do it with with fabric paint and brush or sponge.

DIRECTIONS

BEFORE PAINTING, ALWAYS WASH AND DRY FABRIC (WITHOUT FABRIC SOFTENER) AND COVER EXPOSED FABRIC TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OVER SPRAY DURING PAINTING.

1. Cover your work surface with plastic. Spray the back of stencils with repositionable stencil spray.

2. Lay your jeans down with the side seams matching from the waist to the hem.

3. Place the paisley stencil on the jeans, matching the middle of the stencil with the side seam of the jeans.

4. Spray Silver Lining paint on the stencil. Do not paint to the edges of the stencil or you will end up with an unattractive hard line. Stay well within the border of the stencil frame.

5. Paint one area at a time working from the hem to the waist. The design does not have to be uniform. Spray lighter in some places and heavier in others.

6. When you like the look of your dry design, press the message stencil onto the fabric, being sure all edges adhere.

7.Spray the stencil with White Wedding paint.

8. Remove the stencil when dry. Add more detail by dusting small portions of the paisley stencil with Mango Tango followed by Black Tie paint. This should be done very lightly and only in a few areas.
