As Halloween approaches cats come out of hiding. This silver cat does it with attitude and gold, glittering rhinestone eyes. Download our free stencil and use it to paint your shirt with candy corn colors or any color you choose. Painters tape makes adding different colors to the lettering an easy job. The perfect shirt to wear to the office when you don’t want to show up in a costume!
DIRECTIONS
BEFORE PAINTING, ALWAYS WASH AND DRY FABRIC (WITHOUT FABRIC SOFTENER) AND COVER EXPOSED FABRIC TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OVER SPRAY DURING PAINTING.

1.Download and print the stencil out on card stock. Cut out the black areas using a craft knife or scissors.
2.Iron a light crease in the shirt front to mark the shirt’s vertical center.
3.Position the shirt on a hard, flat surface protected by plastic. Place cardboard inside the shirt where the design will appear.
4.Spray the back of the stencil with repositionable stencil spray.
5.Match the vertical stencil center line to the shirt center. Press down to adhere the stencil to the shirt.
6.Mask off area not to be painted with painters tape and paper towels.
7.Mask off all but the cat image. Spray paint it with silver.
8.When paint is completely dry, cover the cat image. Place a strip of painters tape with the bottom edge of the tape on the second horizontal line of the stencil, covering the upper portions of the letters. Spray yellow.
9.When dry, remove the tape and position it over the yellow paint, aligning the top edge of the tape with the second line. Place another tape with the bottom edge on the the first horizontal line of the stencil. Only the middle of the letters will be exposed. Paint orange.
10.When dry, remove the first strip of tape and reposition it with its top edge on the first horizontal line of the stencil, leaving only the very tops of the letters exposed. Paint white.
11.When dry, remove all the tape and stencil.
12. With a black permanent marker, trace the outer edges of all letters.
13. After 24 hours, set the paint according to your paint instructions.
14. Attach the cat’s eyes by covering the surface with a light protective cloth and pressing down with an iron for 30-40 seconds to release the adhesive of the hot fix rhinestones. Do this with a hard surface under the shirt. See ironing time recommendations for your rhinestones. For added insurance, iron the back side of the fabric too.
TIPS
We outlined the letters with black because the light colors would otherwise fade into the shirt. If you use darker colors for the lettering you may find outlining unnecessary.
We mixed our own orange color using red and yellow paint.
