Freestyle Painted Tee

This project is about as unfussy and uncomplicated as it gets.  We painted this navy blue shirt simply with plastic mesh and one purchased stencil.  Nothing to measure or align, just layer designs across the shirt from the shoulder and front of sleeve, to the opposite hip.  Want more color?  More design?  Make those decisions as you work to complete your one-of-a-kind creation.  These directions will help you get started.  This project recommended for airbrush only.

DIRECTIONS

BEFORE PAINTING, ALWAYS WASH AND DRY FABRIC (WITHOUT FABRIC SOFTENER) AND COVER EXPOSED FABRIC TO PREVENT ACCIDENTAL OVER SPRAY DURING PAINTING.

1. Slip cardboard between the shirt front and back to avoid transfer of paint between the layers.

2. Hold the plastic canvas against the shirt. Spray lightly with White Wedding paint. Work in sections moving diagonally from the shoulder to the opposite hip. Do not paint close to the canvas edge. This will create an unattractive hard line. Just stay well within the boundaries of the canvas as you spray. Finish the canvas design by using it to spray a few areas with Black Tie paint. Let paint dry.

3. Spray the back of the stencil with repositionable adhesive stencil spray.

4. Press the stencil onto the shirt, spraying lightly with Bronze Have More Fun. Use only parts of the stencil. Spraying the entire stencil sheet will create a fussy uniform look with all the designs perfectly positioned near each other. Try to achieve a casual overall look. Create depth to the design by also spraying the stencil with White Wedding paint, Purple People Eater paint, and Black Tie paint in some areas. Keep picking up the stencil and moving it until you have enough design.

5. If some portions of your design end up too white, they can be corrected by over spraying them with Black Tie paint.
