THE INVITATION
The friends you invite to the tournament should be close in age to you. They are the people who will most relate to the game, the foods you will serve, and the music you will play.
Download the .pdf invitation and print it out on white card stock. The layout includes two invitations on a page. Print the page out, then cut it in half. No other trimming of the page is necessary. Blank spaces have been provided so you can fill in your own information such as date, time, etc. Be sure to include a phone number or e-mail address so your guests can rsvp.
JAX
You can find sets of Jax on eBay or in party shops. Some are plain silver, some are multicolor. Be aware that sets of Jax intended for party favors are very lightweight and small, unlike the original Jax you might have owned as a kid. Because pieces sometimes get lost while playing, have a backup set on hand.
THE PLAYING AREA
Plan your tournament on your patio, indoors on a large table, or anywhere there’s a good size flat area with enough room for your guests to move around. Consider the people you’ve invited and any special needs they may have if you will require them to sit or kneel for the game. Heighten the nostalgia of the day by playing music from your childhood during the game.
THE GAME
Play one or several games. Consider playing three games followed by a play-off where the winner is the Jax Champion and receives a winner’s certificate. The certificate is included on page two of the .pdf invitation.
CANDY
Pez Dispensers... Mary Janes... Chunky
What were your favorite candies as a child? You’ll find all your old favorites at www.nostalgiccandy.com
Offer them as prizes to game winners. But keep the most coveted candy for the Jax Champion.
FOOD
What did you crave for lunch as a child? Spaghetti O’s? Balogna sandwiches? For just one day give in to your old cravings, ignore the FDA warnings on packages and serve up the most unlikely buffet your friends have seen. Wash the food down with Kool-Aid and other drinks you haven’t tasted in years.
CREATE MEMORIES
Take plenty of candid photos and action shots during the tournament. Mail copies to your friends after the party.
