DRESS UP A PAIR OF SHOES

FOR THAT SPECIAL OCCASION

DIRECTIONS

We recommend that you make one or more paper copies of the lace you’ve chosen, on a copy machine or your printer.  Roughly cut around the edges of the lace you printed out and experiment with different placements on your shoe. This template allows you to make decisions:  do you want the lace draped straight across the toe, or do you want it at an angle? Maybe you’ll wrap yours around the heel?  Once you’ve decided, hold the paper in place and mark the edges where the lace will be trimmed.  (see red line in photo)

  1. 1.Use your paper template as a guide to trim the fabric lace to the correct size with sharp scissors. (Depending on the design of the lace, you may have to flip the image to create a different template for the left and right shoe.)

  2. •12 inches of Lace

  3. •Shoes

  4. •Painters tape

  1. 2.Apply Jewel-It to the wrong side of the lace.  This product dries clear so it will not be noticeable around the edges.

  2. 3.Using your template as a reference, place the lace in position and press.

  3. 4.Use painter’s tape to hold the lace securely while the glue dries. Be sure glue does not come in contact with tape.  After 24 hours, remove the tape.

TIPS & SHORTCUTS

Iron- on appliques are not recommended as a substitute for the lace as they usually have a backing which makes them less flexible and too thick for this application.  For an added touch, we glued pearls to the lace after it dried.

Lace can be matched to the shoe using fabric paint.  Sponge color onto the lace and let it dry before attaching it to the shoe.
