RHINESTONE SHIRT
In Blue and Topaz
1. With a dressmaker’s marking pencil, mark the vertical center (see red center line) of the shirt with a line from top to bottom.
2.Also mark the horizontal placement. The first horizontal line should be approximately 4 to 5” down from the neck depending on your size. The lower horizontal line should be approximately 4” below the armholes. The yellow area indicates roughly where your finished design should be placed. Try the shirt on and make adjustments if needed.
3.Print out the fish template. Complete instructions are included on the pages.
4.Cut out the template blue shapes and the topaz shapes.
5.Slip a hard surface inside the area of the shirt where you will be working. Using the guide lines provided, position the blue cut out page. This is your stencil for painting the blue areas. Hold down edges of the cutouts so that paint doesn’t travel beyond the intended borders.
6.When the blue paint is dry, replace the blue page with the topaz page and paint the cutout areas. Wait for the topaz paint to dry.
7.Using an Exacto knife or other sharp object, poke holes in the center of each rhinestone image on the stone placement page, then align the page over the shirt matching guides. Use a fine pen to mark the shirt through the holes. These marks will be your guide for positioning the stones.
8.Remove the template. Working from top to bottom, place all rhinestones in position.
9.Carefully cover the stones with a pressing cloth. Be sure none of the stones are moved in the process. With the iron set on cotton and no steam, hold down the iron without moving it for 45 seconds. Let cool and repeat. Turn the shirt inside out and press the iron to the wrong side of the image and hold for 30 seconds. Let cool for at least 20 minutes before handling.
Wash on gentle cycle with cool water. Dry on low heat.
